My parents visited Lela today during her noontime feed. She was wide awake and looking at all of us. She drank all her milk. Last night, the doctor replaced the nasogastric tube so that they can supplement her feeds if she doesn't take all of it by mouth. Her suck reflex is still very immature and it will take time before she can really feed well. She still is getting her daily kangaroo time with mom. AND......yesterday I was convinced to take my t-shirt off in the the NICU and put on Em's small robe and have kangaroo time with Lela! My chest hair did not seem to bother her as I had feared.
So our routine is to show up around her feeding times - which is every 3 hours. We are usually there for the 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, and 9pm feeds. We show up, measure her temperature, change her diaper, and wait for the nurse to bundle her up and take her out of the isolette. We then feed her and hold her for about 45 minutes. She usually is awake for the first 10 mins and then passes out in our arms.
Meanwhile, we are busy at home trying to get her nursery room ready a month ahead of schedule. We have received A LOT of gifts from our friends and family, which we are so thankful for. Connie is still staying with us and has been such a help. She has been cooking, cleaning, running errands, and just taking care of anything we need. She is going to head back to San Antonio on Monday and she will definitely be missed.
