Medical update

As you all may remember, I was admitted to the high risk maternity ward in July after Lela's activity slowed way down in the womb, and her heart rate showed low variability with frequent decelerations. The doctors called it "placental insufficiency" and as a result, Lela was delivered by c-section 3 days later, a full 7 weeks early. After Lela's premature birth, my doctor referred me for tests to the maternal and fetal medicine specialist who consulted on my case. They tested me for a number of things that could potentially have affected the health of my placenta and cord, such as a genetic predisposition for clotting, etc. (if you want to know the medical explanation of what they tested for, please refer questions to Babak). The test results came back today and everything came back negative. To paraphrase the doctor, "placental problems are often unique to a particular pregnancy and there is no medical reason to suspect that Emily can not have a successful subsequent pregnancy."

I think this pregnancy was pretty successful, don't you?
