Lela is starting a new preschool next week and they sent over a ton of forms to fill out. Filling out the "Personal Record" got me thinking that I should really record some of these responses for posterity. I did not include the italicized comments in the form version I turned into her school - no need to tell them up front about our parenting failures.
Date: 10-3-2012 (Lela is 3 years 3 months)
Does your child walk well? Yes. Run? Yes. Is she a good climber? Yes (well, "good" is relative). Does your child fall easily? Yes, but she bounces back well.
Toilet Habits.
Is your child toilet trained? Yes. Have frequent accidents? On occasion, usually at home while standing IN the bathroom - she waits too long to go. Does she let you know when she needs to go? Not usually. She prefers to go to the bathroom alone, even closing the door because "she needs privacy."
Sleeping Habits.
What time does your child go to bed and wake up? 8pm - 8am (theoretically. In reality, she hangs out in her room reading books to herself in bed until at least 9:30 if not later. It's gotten worse in the last week since we gave her pacis to her little sister. Yes, we believed "who cares about paci use?" and let her keep it at bedtime until age three. Big mistake. Big. She doesn't ask for it, but SHE CAN'T FALL ASLEEP ON HER OWN ANYMORE. I'm wondering if our fabulous sleeper was only fabulous because she had the pacis. *bangs head against wall*). Does she nap? Only if totally worn out - she dropped naps just a few weeks ago (WHY GOD WHY? BRING BACK THE NAP!!!!) Does your child sleep with a special toy or blanket? A variety of animals. (Current favorites are her flock of lambs - purple lamb, lamb chop, and ballerina lamb.)
Social Relations.
By nature is your child outgoing, aggressive, shy, withdrawn? Outgoing and friendly, but shy when entering a large group. Does your child enjoy being alone? She plays well independently. What makes your child upset? She's pretty easy-going except when she's over-tired. (See "sleeping habits sans paci above). How does your child show her feelings? The normal way, except: Lela tends to grin when she's being scolded or chastised. It seems very disrespectful, but I think it's sort of her defense mechanism. She still understands that she did something wrong. What is the best way to discipline your child? She does not respond well to absolute commands, which lead to power struggles and in which Lela is way to stubborn to submit. Best to avoid escalation, distract, calmly discuss wrongdoing, and count 1-2-3 + lose privilege. How do you comfort your child? Lots of hugs, love, back rubs.
Eating.
Does your child have any eating problems? No, she's a great eater. What are you child's favorite foods? Almost everything. What does your child dislike? Almost nothing. (Seriously, this child eats far better than I do. The other night, she asked for 3 helpings of steamed broccoli. She routinely eats out at Indian, Thai and Mexican restaurants and eats almost all Persian food. I shutter to think of the day she starts noticing that Mommy is a picky eater).
Other Information.
What are your child's favorite toys? Books are by far her favorite toy. She LOVES her books. Also, the play kitchen is still played with daily and she is really into "art" right now, including water colors, stickers, drawing with chalk on her new easel, and cutting with scissors.
Interests? Music, Books, asking "why?" (her current music favorites include: BeZonCe (Beyonce) - Halo, Rhianna - We Found Love, Gotye - Somebody I Used to Know, and anything by Lady Gaga - Emily and Babak hang heads in shame).
Activities? Gymnastics and Music Class (we took a summer Music Together class, but we didn't sign up again for the fall because I was too uncomfortable sitting on the floor while 8+ months pregnant)
