We celebrated the Persian New Year this weekend on the spring equinox. If you want to learn more about Eid (and see how bald Lela was a year ago!), see our post from last year here. We celebrated with Babak's parents, newly named "Shu-Shu" and "Baba." (Lela was never going to learn "Maman Shohreh" so Shu Shu it is!). This year, Lela learned about the Norooz sofreh set with the seven items starting with S.
She was particularly interested in the M&Ms, which, no, do not start with the letter S, but were set out as part of the sweets. She got her first taste of candy and, no surprise, she LIKED IT!
Lela also started reading at a high school level. She's decided that board books are for babies and she is now drawn to finer literature. She carried around this copy of Pride and Prejudice all weekend and she would spend ten minutes at a time "reading" it. She also enjoyed reading the Patti Smith biographic Just Kids and a few books on statistics that Shu Shu keeps in her study.
She got to dance and have fun with the family all weekend. They say that how you spend Norooz will also be how you spend the next year. We were surrounded by family and love. Our year is off to a wonderful start!
